Own Words

I am definitely Korean-American. But Korean-American in the born-in-1983-generation of Korean-Americans. Since I think how you come up against your Korean-Americana-ness is shaped by what Korean-Americana-ness actually was when you were coming up against it. Long way of saying, it changes even as we type.

Anyways. I’m me AND Korean-American because I did silly things like insist on not learning math and science in order to fight stereotypes that I thought were obnoxious. So at 26 I can tell you what ‘contumacious’ means, but I can’t tell you step one of the scientific method. Which is unfortunate but totes okay.

I’m impressed by Korean-Americans out there doing their thang. I wish I knew every single one of us.

Bye.
