Own Words

Biography:

Aaron Kim, more commonly referred to as rapper Schoolboy Duke, was born on October 1, 1988 in Los Angeles, California. Known for his school-like attire, most notably the black JanSport backpack worn highly up on the upper-back, the pencil worn casually behind the ear, and his light-hearted demeanor, the Schoolboy style became an appropriate addition to his nickname Duke (Droppin Uncommon Knowledge Everywhere).

At a very young age, Aaron Kim aspired to be the first Korean-American Rapper to hit the mainstream and make a more positive impact on the Hip-hop and Rap industry. Inspired by a variety of music, ranging from Korean sappy love songs to American Hip-hop and Rap, and driven by the will to take his music career into a more professional direction, Schoolboy Duke started to record and remix his own songs in middle school. Although Schoolboy Duke was a prominent member of his high school rap group TSC, due to differing responsibilities among group members and Aaron Kim’s admission into the University of California of San Diego, the group disintegrated completely.

Relying on his past experiences and tribulations (involving familial problems and an affiliation with a Korean crew that was kept secret from friends and family), Schoolboy Duke modeled his lyrics and songs to represent a more optimistic perspective on dark situations and circumstances. The passion and emotion stirred within the lyrics and beats of each song became new windows to express his inner frustrations, essentially creating a personal escape from the helplessness and doubt that [he] felt.

Along with his growing musical career, Aaron Schoolboy Duke Kim, is in the process of developing Artistic Lifestyle Management, which includes ART-C, a fashion division, and ARTLife Productions, a new film/editing/music production division.

Schoolboy Duke is presently working on a debut album that is currently untitled. This album features a combination of remixes and Schoolboy originals.
