I am probably the only Korean American cowboy born in Butte, Montana. My father is from N. Korea and my mother from S. Korea. My father was a professor at Montana Tech and then at University of Nevada Reno where I spent most of my childhood. Reno was a rough place to grow up as a Korean American playing classical violin and piano and having extremely religious parents. I was the concert master of all of the orchestra’s I performed in and absolutely hated playing the violin. I eventually learned how to improvise with many different genres of music. I moved to San Francisco during the fist dot com boom and did pretty will with my advertising sales background. I taught myself how to play a five string electric violin then joined a band, toured and shared the stage with big bands such as Hootie and the Blowfish, Third Eye Blind, Dishwalla, Marcy Playground, Everclear and even had the opportunity to open for the Temptations. I eventually quit the band and started free styling electric violin to hip hop and house music in clubs all over the world. I performed at an after party for Kanye West in Las Vegas and opened for DJ AM and Travis Barker. Another claim to fame is that I am the most popular “Dave Kim” on Google and Youtube.
