I am proud to be a Korean American. I am originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I joined the U. S. Army in 2006, and am currently stationed in South Korea as a medic. Being stationed in South Korea has helped me form my identity as a Korean American, both politically and socially.
It is always encouraging to see other Korean Americans doing great things for our country. The current generation of Korean Americans has the knowledge and potential to become more assimilated into American society, and to serve as a conduit for future generations of Korean Americans to become more fully integrated into the fabric of American society.
I think it’s great that there are groups out there which are helping raise awareness of the socio-political issues and struggles that Korean Americans have to deal with on a daily basis.
United We Stand, Divided We Fall. We need to continue to strive to earn our place in American society, and to be proud of our identity as Korean Americans. We need to become more mainstream and to establish leaders in every aspect of society.
De Oppresso Liber – The physical, mental, and political liberation of those oppressed, is my motto; the words I try to live by every day. I can personally relate to this, and that is why I am in the Army.
I was recently accepted to the United States Military Academy (West Point) Prep School, and will be attending school to become an officer in a few months.
