Born and raised in Frankfurt, Germany, always wanted to come to the States…mainly because of Disneyland. Now, I’ve been living here since ‘93…and I still haven’t been to Disneyland.
Always loved the arts and have been blessed with a stubbornness that kept me in the arts field. Even though I was born in Germany, I don’t consider myself as a German or a soon-to-be American. I still have my Korean citizenship even though I’m eligible to become an American. It’s surprisingly easier to get into other countries as a Korean, and there is no jury duty hahaha.
I find it a bit hard to be a Korean sometimes… The majority of us are too fixated on a secure career and future. Even for some of those who walk by faith don’t want their sons and daughters to walk like they did… Maybe it’s just the rebellious selfish me that’s not willing to give up my dreams. I’ve hardly been encouraged by my family in terms of my path as an artist, and it took me sooo many years to completely get over it. Just now, I’m starting to fully taste freedom as I’m comfortably embracing my bohemian lifestyle. I know that my family means well – the best way they know how, and that there is a syndrome of our past history.
It’s weird though, I thought that the pressure I got from my parents was going to be a waste of time… them giving it to me and me trying to resist it… but it strangely comes in handy and aids me on my journey – in such a way that I get to make the best out all the negative knowledge and experiences.
It wasn’t all that bad, there are tons of good things, such as the Mogyogtang… but for now, I just felt like ranting…
