Susan H. Schaffer, is a self taught artist, who resides in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Susan is a five year breast cancer survivor. During her chemotherapy days, which she calls her “gray box days”, she needed to find a reason why she was struck with this horrible disease. During her recovery from her cancer journey, she returned to the easel, which helped her heal and give her energy. She felt if color could help healing her body and soul, why couldn’t it do the same for others.
Today, her artwork is exhibited and shared with other patients at St. Luke’s Cancer Center, The Wellness Center of Lehigh Valley, Raritan Bay Medical Center, and Fox Chase Women’s Cancer Center. She hopes to share this healing power with other cancer organizations in the future.
In 2008, she entered “Ripples” into the Lilly Oncology on Canvas Exhibit which toured the around the country, and was honored at St. Luke’s Cancer Center, Allentown campus in October 2009.
In 2010, she entered “Awakening” into the Lilly Oncology on Canvas Exhibit which won in the oil painting category. She was awarded $1,000 to be given to her choice of charity.
Her motto these days is: “Don’t count the seconds in the day, make every second count”
