What does your company do?
We are a manufacturer of contemporary womens sportswear and dresses.
When and how did your company start?
I started the company out of our flagship store located on trendy Melrose Avenue in 2002 making reconstructed vintage one-of-a-kind pieces. With business starting to take off, I decided to show my first collection in the Spring of 2005.
What's been one of the hardest challenges in running a business?
The hardest challenge was running a fashion business in a downturn economy. People tend to spend their money on necessities rather than luxuries. But we’ve been lucky in this economy thanks to all of our loyal buyers and customers. Because of them we have been able to launch two more lines: Vava by Joy Han and James & Joy.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love my job. What I love most about being a designer is that I have the power to make a woman feel beautiful and confident in my designs. My line is not a very basic line, our designs are meant for people to be seen.
Advice for people looking to start up their own business?
For people starting their own business, I want to tell them to always believe in their idea/product. There are times when things can get tough, but hard work and dedication always pays off in the end.
