What does your company do?

RiceBomb aims to empower the identity of Asian-America. Our multi-media platform provides users with a means to raise awareness, educate, and discuss issues that affect the entire community as a whole. Our content features news articles, editorial blogs, and videos relevant to Asian-Americans. Aside from producing our own original content, we also encourage and showcase user-generated ones as well. This interactive exchange creates a hub for the Asian-American community to strengthen their collective voice.

When and how did your company start?

A number of reasons.

I always complained about not being able to be productive because my then-girlfriend was hoarding all my time. I needed something to show for it and I had to stop being lazy.

I also needed an outlet of expression, no matter how small the statement. Partnering up with good friends of mine who share the same feeling we launched RiceBomb in February 2009.

What's been one of the hardest challenges in running a business?

Decisions are made by those who show up. Scheduling is always tough and nothing seems to get accomplished if this isn’t handled well first. Then when someone comes last minute and doesn’t like a certain detail it’s back to the drawing board. It’s aggravating to say the least. It gets me irked when I hear people complain about the President when they didn’t even bother to vote.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Creativity, laughs, and memories.

Advice for people looking to start up their own business?

It won’t happen if you don’t do it. If it was easy everyone would be doing it. I have a habit of being lazy and smacking myself with regret. I’m working on it. But at the end of the day, do what you love. Otherwise let someone else do it. =)
