I am currently working on a novel about the Korean American experience. I arrived as an immigrant child from Seoul to the streets of Brooklyn in 1973. My parents were in the Air Force, and so I moved around the country meeting all sorts of interesting Korean Americans; including those adopted as young children, and those with mixed parents. I also experienced my share of bullying and prejudice from both Americans and Koreans. The themes of my writing include questions of identity and alienation, the nature of stereotype, and Korea’s historical struggle with itself. Despite all, I am proud to be Korean American.
