I am a Korean American female filmmaker committed to raising the representation of Asian Americans in the media. I graduated with a BA from Brown University and an MFA from Columbia University School of the Arts Graduate Film Division. My short films A SON FOR SENSEI and UNDER:ELEGY, which was broadcast on AZN Network, toured the Asian American film festival circuit.
My feature debut as a writer/director was PURITY (2006), which screened at festivals and won awards for its soundtrack by composer George Shaw and for actress Jae Suh. I’ve spoken about being a woman director of color at Brown, Columbia and New York Universities, Hunter College – City University of New York, The Asia Society and Museum and on the show Asian America (PBS).
On the volunteer front, I am the Co-Chair of the board of The Columbia University Entertainment group (CUE) in Los Angeles where I currently reside. I am hard at work on my next feature, LIBERTY.
