Grad student
I am a Korean adoptee and have lived in the US since I was six months old. I recently made my first successful Korean dish (japchae) on my own! It’s a feat considering I don’t cook very much in general. Maybe once grad school is over. Maybe.
I think I will always be a work in progress. Each day I am learning to define in my own way what it means to be Korean American. There’s no one ‘right’ answer which is wonderfully liberating. Having just one answer is kind of boring. I think that’s why I didn’t much like math growing up.
This spring I will graduate with my (non-math related) master’s degree in social work! I will also travel back to Korea for the first time in my adult life! Both deserve exclamation points because they are equally exciting to me! I don’t know what else to say. I’m just another person who wants to put my heart and mind to good use in this world. My life has been far from perfect, but it’s always full of possibility and I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.
