I would have never thought that I would be doing what I am doing now. And if expectations and fears had its way, there’s really no reason why I should be doing what I am doing. Because as those who have been featured on this blog or read this blog know, that in Korean American culture, having safety and security holds priority over following your passion and vision. There are some whose passions are safe and their visions are secure, but they are the lucky few. I thought I was one of them, but after surviving four years of business school, I knew I wasn’t.
And the truth is, the best thing that ever happened to me was to be laid off. It gave me the opportunity to try and make my passion a career rather than just a serious hobby. The fact that it happened, that I’m able to do this full time, is something I’m thankful for every single day. The only credit I can take is recognizing and taking that chance. The rest is just undeserved blessings and grace.
I don’t know what the future will hold, but it’s addicting to be able to wake up everyday and want to go get started with work. It’s addicting to not have to distinguish between work and life. The amount of information and access we have now is unprecedented and all that’s left is to cultivate our passions and our visions and share it in a meaningful way.
