I am a Korean American born and raised in North Bergen populated by Hispanics. I’m the middle child and was one of the only Asians in my high school and grammar school. I now attend William Paterson University and in my classes there is only 1 other Asian dude lol. For some reason I always forget I’m Asian the thought never comes up until someone brings it up making some sort of Asian reference.
I’ve immersed myself with the Spanish culture. I can dance salsa, bachata, and played percussion throughout high school. I now do Capoeira, which is an Afro-Brazilian martial arts and have been doing it for about 3 years now. I am a student at WPU and work part time as a server at Outback Steakhouse. I would have to say that if I wasn’t born in North Bergen, I wouldn’t be my confident outgoing self. The Korean and Hispanic culture made a huge impact on my life and who I am.
